Ego

 I plan to build a bridge that will greatly benefit thousands of people by connecting two villages. Before I can act, someone else has already built it. The excitement rushed through me as I aimed to hit two sixes in the final over to win the match, but it was a teammate who came through and accomplished the feat.

If I were to feel good about that, it would suggest that I lack ego, while feeling the need to have done it before the other person would indicate the presence of ego.
